In the mid-1980s, Mark Solomon packed up his tools and left the blazing rooftops of Phoenix, Arizona. By 1987, Solomon Contracting was born—starting with one focus: roofing.

Phoenix taught Mark everything about tile and slate systems under relentless sun. When he arrived in St. Louis, that rare expertise—paired with mastery of steep-slope and flat roofing—became instantly in demand. Midwest homes and businesses needed someone who could handle it all, from historic pitches to sprawling commercial flats, through ice storms and humid heat.

Like every founder, Mark initially wore all the business hats in the early days. As the business grew, he realized he needed serious help to scale in St. Louis. By 2012, he brought in a Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Manager. Systems and processes clicked into place to manage everything, and the P&L trends started climbing.

Today, Solomon Contracting is a true family owned roofing company with two generations in the office. Mark Solomon, President, leads the Exteriors Department and all roofing operations. His son James Solomon, Vice President, drives the Remodeling Department. Mark’s wife Melissa serves as his right hand, keeping everything running smoothly.

Also, Solomon Contracting is deeply invested in the St. Louis community, supporting local soccer as a way to give back and build up the next generation. Solomon Contracting has made a five-year commitment to the St. Louis Ambush professional soccer team, FC Ambush semi-pro squad, and the FC Youth soccer league—impacting hundreds of kids across St. Louis and St. Charles. It's our way of fostering teamwork, grit, and community spirit, just like we do on every job site.
