SIDING TYPES TO CHOOSE FROM

Efficient. Reliable. Exceptional Service.

  • Vinyl

Vinyl siding is by far one of the most popular options because its affordability makes it attractive to the budget-conscious. The color options are endless and it’s easy to clean.

Unfortunately, it’s not waterproof and if it’s installed poorly, water can seep behind the paneling. It’s also known to warp in extreme weather – both hot and cold – and hail, baseball, tree limbs, etc., can leave dents and gashes on your siding.

  • Fiber Cement

Fiber cement siding is another popular option because it’s a mixture of wood fibers, sand, and cement. It’s supposed to mimic the look and feel of natural wood siding, without the hassles of maintenance, insect pests, and cost. Fiber cement siding is fire resistant and not prone to rot or decay.

It’s more costly than vinyl siding, but it is more likely to last longer than vinyl or wood siding. It will have to be repainted every fifteen years or so, but that is a longer gap between repainting wood siding.

  • Metal

Metal siding is very low maintanence and the color won’t fade. It’s fire resistant and resilient,  and insect pests won’t be able to get in as easily.

The cons are that metal siding is prone to dents if it hails or the neighbor sends an errant baseball toward your house. If it isn’t installed properly, metal siding can eventually rust and becomed discolored.

  • Wood

Everyone loves a good, natural wood look. It just makes your home look inviting. Wood can be stained and painting in limitless colors and it can be easily replaced in small quantities if it gets damaged.

Wood siding is vulnerable to insect pests and moisture. Termites will wreak havoc if they get the chance. Wood siding also isn’t fire resistant (obviously) and needs to be maintained every few years with a new stain or paint.

SOFFITS AND FASCIA

It’s All in the Details

First things first: what is a soffit and fascia?

A soffit is the exposed surface under the overhanding section of your roof’s eave. A fascia is the vertical finishing edge connected to the ends of rafters or where the gutter is attached to the roof.

Okay, but what do they do?

The soffit is supposed to help vent the attic and draw moisture away from it. The fascia is supposed to act as a layer between the edge of the roof and the outdoors, and meant to protect the wooden board against water damage. Fascia also play an aesthetic role by creating a smoother appearance for the edge of the roof.

They’re probably an area of your home you didn’t think about too often, but as you can see, they play an important role in protecting your home.

Soffits and fascia are traditionally made from aluminum or wood, but many homeowners are now choosing ones made from synthetic materials because they offer more durability and less maintenance.

If you notice a problem with your soffits and fascia, it’s important that you get them looked at and fixed right away. They do their part to protect your home from moisture and the dangers that come with it.
